2014 Run for the Fallen Rhode Island Gold Star Family Update #3

Improved RFTF RI Logo

To all of our Blue and Gold Star Families:

Again, we would like to thank you so much again for your support of Run for the Fallen RI’s first annual event.  We are so honored to have the opportunity to remember your fallen hero and to recognize you as their family member and friend.

We are just over 3 months away from our first run/walk. As we have promised from our first update, we want to ensure that all of you are apprised every step of the way and have an understanding of the day’s event.

1. Schedule. Our website is updated daily (sometimes several times during the day) with all of the latest information about our event. The latest schedule can be found here: https://runforthefallenri.org/event-info/schedule-of-events/.

2. Family/Friend Apparel – Sizes Due June 15, 2014. For the day, we want to ensure that our participants can easily recognize all of the family members and friends of our heroes. Please don’t forget to send us the sizes for up to 5 people per hero. The size ranges are Adult Unisex Small through 2XL and we have the ability to order Youth sizes upon request.  Your shirts will have the Run for the Fallen Rhode Island logo on the front and the words ‘My RI Hero is [Insert Name of Your Hero]’ on the back.

3. Event Info. During the event, each hero has a memorial marker. They will be placed ~400m apart in alphabetical order. As a family member and friend, you have the option of participating in the event by running/walking or standing by your hero marker.

4. Family Luncheon in July. Finally, we are solidifying plans for our 1st Annual RFTF RI Family Luncheon in July.  Our next update will have all the details and we hope that you will be able to join us.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us at mail@runforfallenri.org.  We read every single e-mail and appreciate all of the feedback about the website and the event.

Thanks so much for your time.  This is a small way to show our support to you.  We will never forget the sacrifice of our RI heroes.

I have sent in my application to volunteer for this event in memory of Brian StGermain. Can I order a shirt that says My RI hero is Brian R StGermain to wear on that day? I have been friends with his mom Lynn for 30+ years and would like to honor both Brian & Lynn by wearing this shirt. Let me know the coat and where I can order. I have already ordered and received the shirt that lists all the names. Great job on the design. I love it!!

    • Gale: Thank you so much for your support of our event and your willingness to volunteer in honor of Brian. We had not planned on selling the Gold shirts that the families and their selected friends of the families would be wearing but I appreciate your inquiry and the background that you provided. Can you please send us an e-mail so that we can discuss this further at mail@runforfallenri.org? Looking forward to hearing from you! We appreciate the feedback on the shirts. We are so happy that you like them. Stay tuned for more information on volunteering for the event, also.

I am confused. This event is designed to honor Gold Star families and their family members, correct? I just wasn’t sure why the update addresses Blue Star families as well and wanted to make sure I didn’t miss something. As soon as I can make arrangements for my four kids, I plan to register for the 5K run. My husband is deployed as an IA in support of OEF, and running a 5K was one of my personal goals for this deployment. I just completed my first one and would consider it an honor to to participate in this run.

    • Thank you for your inquiry. Some of our family members who are participating have sons and/daughters who have served or are serving. This event is to honor the heroes who fit our criteria list on our ‘Wall of Heroes’ page. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again for your support in remembering our heroes and recognizing their families. We hope that you will be able to join us on Sept. 27th. Congratulations on completing your first 5K — that is a wonderful accomplishment. If you need any help with registering, we can assist, also. Thank you for your support and we greatly appreciate your husband’s service. Have good day.
